Highlights

The Langtang Valley is one of Nepal's most beautiful locations, and it was once a favorite among trekkers looking for spectacular scenery, unique culture, and warm hospitality in quaint homestay guesthouses - all within easy reach of Kathmandu. The journey begins in Syabrubesi, a small town. Around Kyangjin Gompa, you'll climb through beautiful woodlands to high alpine meadows and yak farms. You retrace your steps back down the valley and drive back to Kathmandu after a climb to the summit of Kyangjin Ri (peak), where the 360-degree vistas of the Himalayan mountains are absolutely breathtaking.

Introduction

Because of its magnificent views, fascinating Tamang culture, moderate pace, and close proximity to Kathmandu, the Langtang Valley has long been a popular trekking destination. The 2015 earthquake and resulting landslide had a huge impact on the area, but aid and repair have recently reopened this valley to trekking. Not only will your visit give essential support for local livelihoods, but it will also be a magnificent walk.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, after clearing customs, our representative will be waiting to help you get settled into your hotel and go through do’s and don’t with some brief information about your hotel, Kathmandu city and trek.

Kathmandu has a unique aura in the early morning hours, when the city is slowly but steadily waking up. It's a fantastic time to go for a walk and explore the streets, or to relax with a cup of tea while looking out over one of the local courtyards or Durbar Squares. Given the many spectacular sites in the Kathmandu Valley, there are plenty. Afternoon will be free to get prepared for the trek starting following morning.

Early departure from Kathmandu is recommended for the 7-8 hours long journey to the Langtang Valley. As the route leaves the Kathmandu Valley, it climbs high across slopes, providing spectacular views of the Annapurna Himalayas in the west, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and the Langtang region's peaks ahead.

Before climbing to Dhunche and the Langtang National Park, we drive through the lively town of Trisuli. It's another hour downhill from Dhunche to Syabru Besi, where you will spend the night.

The trail today crosses the Bhote Kosi, or 'Tibet River,' which flows from Tibet. It then climbs through deserted oak and rhododendron woodlands before joining the trail from Syabru Besi. In the woods, keep an eye out for langur monkeys. The climb up to Lama Hotel through the forest is strenuous, but the reward is a nice room in a charming lodge in the little village.

The trail continues to ascend through the forest, with glimpses of Langtang Lirung through the trees on occasion. The trail emerges from the forest at Ghora Tabela (3,000 m.), and the mountains loom on both sides of the valley. The trail continues to climb gradually as the valley widens, passing a few makeshift communities used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the summer meadows. If you haven't already, you'll most likely see your first yak.

The following section of the walkway serves as a mournful reminder of the earthquake that occurred in 2015. There is now only a vast rock field where Langtang village once stood, with various lodges.

Mundu is only about a half-hour walk away. The historic houses here are a reminder of how all the communities in this valley used to appear. The majority of the lodges and homes in this area are newly constructed in a more contemporary style.

The trail gradually climbs from Mundu through yak pastures as the valley opens up and the vistas become more expansive. The trail arrives in Kyangjin after traversing several small streams and moraines. A small monastery and a government-run cheese factory can be found here, and it's a nice place to stock up on lunch and afternoon snacks.

Because you will arrive by lunchtime, you will have time to relax or explore the neighborhood in the afternoon. If you're feeling really energetic, make your way up the Valley to Langshisha Kharka to take in some of the breathtaking views.

You can relax or go exploring today. You may explore the monastery and cheese factory, stroll up the moraine to observe the Langtang Lirung's stunning ice faces and tumbling glaciers, or climb Kyangjin Ri immediately behind the settlement for a breathtaking view of the Langtang peaks. Climbing Kyanjin Ri is worth it for the magnificent views and reaching the highest point on this trek.

Retrace your steps up the valley from Kyangjin, following the Langtang Khola to Mundu hamlet and then on to Ghora Tabela. Certainly, the descent will be quicker than the rise. Continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel after lunch.

Retrace your steps back to Syabrubesi, taking in the tranquility of the forested hills. If you are feeling energetic, take the scenic way from Rimche to Syabru Besi through Sherpa Gaon; it'll take considerably longer to get to your final destination, but it'll be a beautiful detour.

After breakfast start the drive towards Kathmandu. Climb to Dhunche and exit the National Park boundry enjoying the scenery of local villages. Stop in between for a local Nepalese meal for lunch and continue the drive to Kathmandu. Afternoon will be free for roam around Thamel, buy some last moment souvenirs and pack your bags to depart next day.

As per your departure time, one of our representatives will pick you up from your hotel and transfer to the international departure terminal for the flight back home with sweet memories of the recent trek.
